Week Two: Camera Angles research

In preparation for filming, we looked at some examples of camera angles and the effect that they have. This gave us an idea into what camera angles we should use for our shots when filming, rather than just sticking to on boring angle. We looked at a few sites before coming across the site http://www.slideshare.net/SianLynes/film-shots-and-their-effect-on-the-audience  where we found some good examples.

From here we discussed what angles suited what shots from our story board.

Shot one: The shopping list
We thought that for shot one a high angle/close-up would be appropriate to give a sense that the camera is the eye of the person grabbing the shopping list. We could also use ann over the shoulder  shot if we wanted. Both could work quite well.

Shot two: The entering of the markets/ supermarket
We thought that a long shot would be good for this, as we want the audience to easily identify the scenery in order to determine whether we are showing the market or the supermarket. Through this shot we will also be setting the scene.

Shot three: Browsing the are
For this shot we want to create a feel of following the character, with this whole hand held camera feel, so we want to go for just a mid angle shot, where we can have the character and their actions as the focal point, but also have a bit of scenery in the shot to ensure that it is easy to identify whether they are in the markets or in the supermarket.

Shot four: Grabbing the produce/product
This shot we want to be a close-up or extreme close-up shot, as this will make it easy to identify the action of grabbing produce, without any background distractions.

Shot Five: Paying for produce/product
Again a close-up or extreme close-up would be good for this shot, as it will clearly show the point we are trying to get across. However having a mid-angle in there as well will be good to show the emotion of the markets with the grower/farmer compared to the emotionless self-checkout.

Shot six: Leaving the market/supermarket
For this shout it would be good to have a long shot or mid-angle the same as when the character was entering the supermarket/market. This could also include a close-up on the receipt (supermarket) or wallet with left over cash (market)
